Call for Papers:
In conjunction with The Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s completion of the canon, this symposium celebrates Shakespeare and Fletcher’s co-authored tragicomedy, The Two Noble Kinsmen. Participants will hear a lecture by Brian Isaac Philips (Producing Artistic Director of the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company and Director of The Two Noble Kinsmen), attend a performance of the play, and enjoy a private, post-performance Q & A with the actors.
In addition to engaging directly with this particular production, the symposium will examine this complex and intriguing play from multiple angles. Participants are invited to consider any facet of the play, including pedagogical concerns, adaptation and performance, sources and textual history, gender and genre. We wish to capitalize on the unique opportunity to see the play and engage directly with the production team: this is an exciting chance to open up conversation on a wonderful, rich text.
The Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is a resident ensemble theatre that has been performing Shakespeare and the Classics in Cincinnati for twenty years. With this performance of The Two Noble Kinsmen, CSC will become only the fifth theatre in the country to have performed the entire canon.
We invite two kinds of submissions:
Abstracts are due Monday, March 10, in Word or .pdf format. Please direct queries and submissions to Niamh J. O’Leary.
